Google added nutritional data for over 1000 foods to its search results this month, further increasing the link between food labels and digital campaigns. The search giant also bought 'social sat nav' Waze- largely seen as a defensive move to stay ahead of Apple and Facebook in the mapping sector. In Russia, Yandex has added 'call-to-action' buttons within search results, giving brands a more direct link to consumers.

Facebook 'borrowed' a couple of ideas from Twitter this month. First adding 15-second videos to Instagram to rival Twitter's popular Vine service- which has already proved a popular and engaging channel for brands. Second, it added clickable hashtags to status updates, providing a new way for marketers to reach target audiences on the social network. One in-demand feature that Facebook is yet to implement is a 'dislike' button for annoying ads- an idea that has proved popular with many consumers.
