Viral case study: How the 'Ice Bucket challenge' raised $15m in 3 weeks
In July 2014, Charity ALS started a small scale internet challenge that ended up reaching all the way to the White House. This case study looks at how the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ led to record donations to the charity, raising some $15.6m in contributions to the group and its national affiliates, compared with less than $50,000 in the same period last year.

Webby Awards 2014: Winners revealed as hoax fire viral scoops awards
The Webby Awards, often dubbed the Oscarsof the Internet, has announced its latest batch of award winners, with Vine, Airbnb, Kickstarter and Vimeo among this year’s winners for their services to digital media. Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel won the Viral Video award for his “Twerk Fail” clip, which, as he proudly mentioned on his show, was broadcast on dozens of news networks before the late night host revealed that it was a fake (see below).

'No make up selfie' raises £8m for Cancer Research in a week
Cancer Research UK received more than £8m in donations after a popular online campaign, asking women to post selfies with no make-up using the hashtag #nomakeupselfie, went viral in March 2014. The brand rose seven places from last year to take the top spot, while Geico came in second with 4.9 million shares, ahead of Dove at 4.5 million and Pepsi at four million.
