Axe gets serious with ‘Make Love Not War’ video

In a surprise move, Axe has ditched its playboy image with a serious message for this year’s Super Bowl commercial slot to push its new ‘Peace’ fragrance.The brand, often known for inciting controversy in the gender wars, has issued a new 30-second Super Bowl spot—using the old 60s slogan "Make love. Not war" to push its latest product range. The "Make love. Not war" slogan appears at the end, along with the logo of the Peace One Day organization, which is a partner of the campaign. (Axe is giving $250,000 to the group and promoting it on its website and Facebook.) The hashtag is #KissForPeace.

Pot Noodle pays for student’s tuition fees in Facebook search for ‘Scholar’

To coincide with the new academic year, Unilever's Pot Noodle offered one student the chance to have their tuition fees for the next year paid for them, as part of a new Facebook ‘Scholar’ campaign. The winner was given everything they need to live the Uni lifestyle including Pot Noodle-branded t-shirts, trainers, bed sheets, condoms, a year’s supply of Pot Noodle and a “legendary” party.

Lynx debuts holiday dating app to 'Get Le Girl'

In summer 2013, Lynx launched a humorous dating app to help young men charm women and compete with their friends while on holiday. The Unilever-owned brand created the app, called Get le girl, to assist young men on their quest to meet women while on holiday. The app includes chat up line translations created to help guys master the native tongue and impress local girls.

Unilever increases brand awareness 24% with South East Asian games mobile push

Unilever sponsored the 2011 SEA Games and worked with AdMob to create interactive mobile campaigns using "Rich Media Designs for Mobile". The campaign delivered great performance, with 646,000 clicks on brand banners and a 24% increased aided brand awareness & 29% increased brand favorability. This video case study shows how the brand managed to engage the home team Indonesia.

Dove confronts beauty PhotoShoppers with hoax plugin

Dove took its ‘Campaign for Real Beauty’ up a notch in February 2013, as the Unilever brand deployed a fake PhotoShop plugin to catch designers in the act of manipulating model images. In Canada, OgilvyOne seeded the tool on popular sites, with the promise to add skin tone to an image. However, the plugin actually erased all special effects and returned the photo to its original state (“Don’t manipulate our perceptions of real beauty” appears on-screen).The ad has so far amassed 750,000 YouTube views, and earned plenty of column inches in the press.

Twitter case study: Magnum's coupon giveaway with #GrabaSpoon hashtag

Video case study: Lyons Tea gets first ‘pause button’ video ads on RTE player

Unilever Ireland ran a new ‘on pause’ video ad campaign for its Lyons Tea brand in Ireland- triggered every time a user pauses their video player on the RTE website. The format demonstrates what can be delivered by working collaboratively with industry partners, and was the result of significant investment in new technology by RTÉ to enable the ad’s deployment.

Social media marketing- Unilever uses Facebook vouchers for Marmite cereal bar giveaway

In early 2010, Unilever launched a campaign on Facebook to distribute samples of its new Marmite Cereal Bar and to drive awareness of the new product. This case study shows how the brand used the Facebook Ad Units format to create buzz, generating 22m impressions and distributing 33,000 samples to its target audience of mums and young adults.

Dove Facebook App outshines beauty pageant with 23,000 new social media fans

Ahead of an annual Beauty Queen pageant held on International Women's Day, Dove created a social media campaign entitled "Beauty Does Not Have Just One Queen." This case study looks at how, with one outdoor billboard and a highly targeted Facebook app, the brand created a huge amount of online engagement and 23,000 new Facebook fans.

The campaign, for the Unilever-owned cosmetic and toiletry brand, used a Facebook application that was connected to a digital billboard in the heart of Tel Aviv. Women uploaded a picture of themselves using the app, and their portrait was then screened on the billboard with the caption "Beauty Does Not Have Just One Queen".

‘Peephole’ Axe campaign mixes QR codes with Facebook to drive brand engagement

This risqué ‘Peephole’ campaign from men’s deodorant brand Axe made innovative use of QR codes. The ad targeted its demographic of young men with a ‘hot’ video that suddenly stops, prompting viewers to continue the experience at the brand’s Facebook page. Once on the social networking site, users could unblock hotter and more daring videos by sharing the experiences with their friends. The action kept getting hotter in the videos, all leading to one common message: STOP LURKING, START MATING. Experience the AXE Effect. A reminder that to get into the action, you need AXE.

The campaign worked by making smart use of QR codes, video content, Facebook Pages and consumer insight. The results were 14% of the target audience watched the videos daily. 33% increase in social interaction with the brand. 52 % increase in post views and feedback (engagement) on Facebook.

Cornetto projection mapping rewards gamers with ice cream coupons

This on-street campaign from Cornetto in Turkey raised awareness of Unilever's Ice Cream brand with a game that was playable via projection mapping over 3 days, in a central square in Istanbul. The interactive game was playable by passersby who had to call a number to enter, which then enabled them to control a character within the game using the keypad on their phone. The game was only playable by 5 people at a time, encouraging people to watch the action while they waited their turn. If the player is successful, they get a code to redeem for a free ice cream.

Dove’s interactive advertising campaign contributed significantly to brand impact. By increasing the online spend within the same total ad budget from 2% to 15%, Unilever produced an 8% increase in overall branding metrics and a 14% increase in purchase intent.
